As Buddhism has long been the national tradition of Bhutan, His Holiness Trulku Jigme Choeda Rinpoche, founded Menjong Choethuen Tshogpa (MCT) in July 2002. It is the first and only non-governmental organization in the Kingdom of Bhutan, to preserve the national Buddhist tradition.

In June 2003, His Holiness of Bhutan appointed His Eminence Trizin Tsering Rimpoche as the chairman. Each of the twenty dzongkhags (provinces) in Bhutan is headed by one MCT chief and two MCT vice-chiefs. His Eminence’s working team comprises all twenty chiefs along with forty vice-chiefs. In 2004, His Eminence founded the Buddha Dordenma Image Foundation to run the Buddha Dordenma Project. Other projects have also been incrementally started.
